Position Open: Director of Beijing Institute of Genomics, CAS

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is seeking a Director for the Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG). BIG, established in 2003, has been focused its research activities on genomics, bioinformatics, and systems biology as well as closely related research fields, relying on its integrated large-scale genomic and bioinformatic research platforms. It is also promoting translational research that applies knowledge and inventions from basic research to meet the national demands including biomedicine, agriculture, oceanic sciences, alternative energy, and environment.


1. The director is the chief administrative officer of Beijing Genomics Institute. Candidates must have long-term vision, policy making capability, and demonstrated experiences in administrative management in research institutions of similar scale. He or she must be open-minded, committed to academic excellence, and enthusiastic in promoting the institute's national and international leadership and visibility in the fields of genomics and bioinformatics.

2. Candidates will consciously implement the principle of democracy-centralism and abide by the state laws and CAS regulations and must have demonstrated leadership experiences and integrity characterized by emphasizing first-hand information, team work, and openness.

3. Candidates must have PhD degree, full professorship, and 10+ years of working experiences in scientific research and administrative management in prestigious university or research institute. Candidates must be nationally and internationally recognized and influential experts in genomics, bioinformatics, and closely related fields with an excellent track record of scientific publications. Candidates' research fields and interests must fit the long-term vision and current research goals of BIG.

Application procedure

Applicants should submit the attached application form and provide curriculum vitae, a list of qualifications and publications, and a brief statement of the applicant's vision for the institute future research direction (about 2500 words). The package should be sent to Bureau of Personnel and Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The deadline is March 31, 2008.

The search committee will review the applications immediately and schedule interviews for the qualified candidates. The interview is tentatively scheduled in April, 2008. The candidates are required to prepare a 40 minute presentation (powerpoint presentation required) and the interview process will be conducted by an CAS appointed search committee.
