Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang on Monday called for more efforts to maintain "stable and relatively fast" industrial growth and further promote the transformation of industrial development patterns.

More efforts should be made to accelerate industrial structure upgrades through deepening opening up and reform, strengthening the real economy, promoting scientific innovation and the integration of industrialization and information technology, Zhang said at a national work conference on industrialization and information technology.

Zhang stressed that the government should work to build a solid foundation for the development of the real economy and give strong support to the sound development of medium and small businesses, so as to boost domestic demand, especially that for consumption.

Zhang said China should actively cultivate emerging strategically important industries while working to eliminate obsolete capacities and further promoting industrial emission reduction and energy conservation.

He also called for more government efforts to enhance scientific development and innovation to foster industrial core competitive edges.

China should strive to ensure product quality and enhance branding, Zhang said.

Furthermore, Zhang urged accelerating the integration of industrialization and information technology while expanding trial programs of tri-network integration and enhancing Internet and information regulation.
